Petrified / Fossilised Wood Sink 124 – 57 x 32cm. A petrified wooden sink is one of those unique products that appears out of this world. The process leading to the creation of petrified wooden is magical. Indonesian petrified wood is actually stone from the Miocene era of time, this means it is circa 20 million years old. You did read that correctly – each sink is 20,000,000 years old!!! By comparison, the general estimate is that humans have been around for maybe 200,000 years. Petrified wood is an actual fossil. It forms when the wood is buried by sediment and protected from decay from oxygen. Minerals permeate the structure of the wood and slowly (over millions of years) replace the structure of the tree with stone.
Petrified wood is extremely hard and durable. To work with requires specialist knowledge and skills – The Stone Sink Company produces the highest quality petrified wooden sinks.
